"Reaching Your Potential" 52nd Annual Juried Art Exhibition Chagrin Valle Art Center 2023 |
Best of Category Oil Based Media "Reaching Your Potential" 38th Annual Juried Exhibition Cuyahoga Valley Art Center “Mr. Jackson’s painting of a building facade is his most preferred subject. This time, however, he loads his composition with asymmetrical and conflicting forms. He celebrates the jumble of urban signage and forms, however utilitarian they are, with the breaking of a new dawn. Of particular note is how often Mr. Jackson uses shadows to finish his composition.” – Juror, C. Arthur Croyle Best of Category Oil Based Media “Strolling on Broad” 2023 Membership Exhibition Cuyahoga Valley Art Center “Tom Jackson is the master of the urban landscape who has a keen eye for the beauty in architectural detail and the shadows that create them. It’s especially interesting to view his work from a distance for the “gestalt” and then zoom in for the wonderful painterly second course”. -Juror, William “Bill” Peck |

"For First Place, I am pleased to present Tom Jackson’s Twp Figures Standing, an oil painting on canvas. What I was particularly taken by with this painting was the extent to which the detail really allows you to create a narrative even with the absence of background. If you’re able to look closely at the figures’ expression and body language, they denote something really interesting. It reflects contemporary life, and this sort of association with each of us being so tied to our cell phones. It’s a contemporary image of modern-day life painted in a semi-realistic way, but a way that I think begs the viewer to associate an interesting story."

"Chinatown is impeccably executed. From the meticulously rendered type, to the perfectly cast shadows and window reflections, to the magical detailing on the streetcar wires in the sky, this painting of a sunny and gritty street corner is a feast for the eyes."

Juror Statement: "I was totally mesmerized by this painting.
Obviously, the artist’s use of color is most pleasing.
The more I studied the painting, the more I appreciated the overall design, use of shape dynamics, proportion and the artist’s aesthetic sense.
It is a memorable image.”
